We are a collective of diverse and distinct voices of BIPOC adoptee writers and artists.
MISSION: We honor the experiences and elevate the work of BIPOC adoptee writers and artists.
VISION: We envision a literary and artistic landscape where BIPOC adoptee writers and artists have agency and autonomy to advance and deepen their own narratives.
We do this by:
Fostering community among adoptee writers and artists.
Creating space in order to mourn the losses and celebrate the triumphs of adoptee writers and artists.
Collaborating on public presentations, exhibitions, and workshops.
Why “starling”?
“The synchronized movement patterns of a starling flock is also known as a murmuration. Guided by simple rules, starling murmurations can react to their environment as a group without a central leader orchestrating their choices; in any instant, any part of the flock can transform the movement of the whole flock. Collective leadership/partnership. Adaptability.” - adrienne maree brown, Emergent Strategy
